πŸ“‹ Preparation

Before attending your presentation slot, make sure to:

  1. Ask your teammates if they have already filled out the course survey:
    Complete the DS105A survey

  2. Form your group and set up your GitHub repository. If you have any issues with your group, πŸ“§ ASAP.

  3. Prepare your pitch presentation - Review the ✍️ Pitch Presentation Assessment page to understand the marking criteria.

πŸ›£οΈ Lab Roadmap

This is the final lab of the Autumn Term. Each group will have at most 5 minutes to deliver a pitch of what they plan to accomplish by 5 February 2026, followed by Q&A from the teaching team and anyone else in the room.

Key Requirements:

  • Maximum 5 minutes presentation time

  • Everything you present must be in the public GitHub page for your GitHub repository

    • It’s fine to embed images with β€˜slides’ if you prefer GitHub automatically converts your docs/index.md to an HTML file (the language of websites).
    • As I know some people in this course already know a bit of HTML, it is also fine to produce a docs/index.html instead of the docs/index.md. It would work the same way.

    πŸ’‘ Advanced tip: If you don’t like the bland look of the website produced out of the docs/index.md but you don’t know any HTML, you can either add a theme or use an AI to style the page for you and produce a β€œself-contained HTML file” based on your markdown.

  • All team members must contribute to the presentation

  • Be prepared for questions from the teaching team and other students in the room.

  • Focus on project planning and coordination, not detailed data analysis It’s absolutely OK for you to change your plans after the pitch presentation. The point of the pitch is to demonstrate that:

    1. everyone in the group works well together, and
    2. you know how to plan a project where you have complete freedom to decide on the topics and APIs.

If you are not coming in-person

Students who cannot attend in person must provide a pre-recorded video presentation that integrates with the live presentation. Unless you have extenuating circumstances (as defined by LSE regulations), non-attendance will result in a -20 marks deduction.

LSE Academic Regulations

The LSE General Academic Regulations for Undergraduate Students state that:

β€œBy registering with the School a student agrees to be entered for assessment on the courses they are taking, at the time and place set by the School and by the methods prescribed in the relevant degree and programme regulations and in the School Calendar Course Guides”

The last day of the academic term still counts as a valid day of teaching. Travel plans unfortunately do not meet the extenuating circumstances condition.

This policy is in place to reward students who remain until the last day of term. Please note that a -20 marks penalty on this component represents only -2 marks on your final course grade, so while we encourage attendance, the impact is relatively small in the grand scheme of things.

How to submit your pre-recorded video:

  • The easiest way is to register a free account on Loom, record your video there, and then grab the HTML embed code from Loom and add it to your GitHub Pages website (docs/index.md or docs/index.html).

  • Alternatively, you can record a video using your phone or any other tool, upload the video to under the docs/ folder and them embed it with the <video> HTML tag in your GitHub Pages website. For example, if your video file is called your-video-file.mp4, you can add this to the docs/index.md (or docs/index.html) file:

    <video width="600" controls>
        <source src="your-video-file.mp4" type="video/mp4">
    </video>
