🗓️ Week 01 - Introduction, Context & Key Concepts
2022/23 Lent Term
In this first week, we will cover what you can expect to learn from this course and the course logistics: all you need to know about the structure of the lectures, classes, assessments, and how we will interact throughout this course.
We will also cover some of the basics: what do we mean by data science, and what tools will you need to use during this course?

✍️ Coursework
Coursework
This week, you have two tasks:
The first one is to collect data about yourself, whatever you like and in whatever format you prefer. Just make sure you keep it in a document (a spreadsheet? or a Word document?) and bring it with you to the first class of this course, which happens on 💻 Week 02 right after the lecture.
Alternatively, you can simply fill this document with data that your smartphone or your browsing history already produces for you, such as the number of steps you take per day, the time you spend on your phone, the time you spend on social media, etc.
Browse the 📔 Syllabus page for ideas about exporting your Google and Instagram data.
The second task is to write notes about the indicative reading of the week (you can find it on the 📔 Syllabus page). Next week, we will discuss data organisation and create a shared document for everyone to share notes, but for now, keep your notes in whatever format and wherever you like.
